We are Forest

We are part of the forest. For quite a magnificent percentage of our species’ life span, forest blanketed the land. The native peoples knew their very existence rested upon an interdependency with everything else that grew and lived. Our lives still do today. Air, filtered by our planet’s oceans flora and forests, we breathe. Water, from the earth’s chasms channels and creeks, we drink. This particular shot was captured among a grove of serenely quiet sequoia sempervirens of California’s northern coastline. With an ocean’s mist swirling upon a faintest of breeze, tickling my cheeks and soul, I could hear a creaking of boughs trickling through the fog, faraway screeches of the area’s famed buteo jamaicensis riding on the winds, and the familiar rap-tat-tatting of a nearby melanerpes formicivorus. With all the songs of the forest wafting throughout my being, I was overcome by a stupor of sorts, in utter awe of all the majesty ’round. It was in this state of ecstasy that I found my gaze lingering amidst the many trunks of these peaceful giants afore me, the way they laced into one curtain of ancient being, one sole creature: forest. And I, among them, overcome with appreciation and gratitude for their centuries existence, for their wisdom permeating so completely this place of serenity, of peace, of tranquility absolute. We peoples are a mere piece of an immensely large, stupendous, web of all things living on this wonder-filled world. Forest is us, and We are Forest.
